Manogue overpowers CHS; Shadle no-hits Vikes

Three was the key number in Tuesday’s Carson-Bishop Manogue softball game.

The Miners scored three runs in each of the first three innings en route to a 10-4 win over the Senators at Carson High School.

The loss dropped Carson to 7-10 in league play. The Senators visit Manogue at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

Carson is fighting to stay in the top eight, which it must do to advance to the postseason.

In the first, Manogue scored on a double by Sammi Tallman, a single by Megan Lawson, a throwing error by Michelle Perry and a wild pitch. Starter Becka Breuer was relieved by Kaitlyn Jimmy after facing just four batters.

Tallman gave Manogue a 6-0 lead in the second when she hit a three-run homer scoring Amanda Fritsch and Lani Erhart, both of whom had singled.

In the third, Manogue used an error by Bailey Allen, a double by Janae Soule and singles by Fritsch and Erhart to make it 9-1. Fritsch’s hit scored two runs.

Carson got on the board in the bottom of the third when Malia Tiffer walked and stole second. She moved to third on an infield single, and the duo worked a double steal, Tiffer beating the throw home.

Lawson homered to lead off the fourth to make it 10-1.

Aubrey Northrup went 3-for-4 to lead the offense.

Dayton 5, South Tahoe 1

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The Dust Devils scored four times in the fourth to break open a 1-0 game and grab a Northern 1A victory on the strength of a no-hitter by Makayla Shadle and two RBI by Shalia Powell Tuesday afternoon.

Dayton improved to 14-8, including 10-8 in league.

Shadle fanned 18 and walked one in her gem.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Peter Scott threw six strong innings and drove in a run in the narrow loss to the Vikings.

Cole Hummel led the offense with two hits.

Damonte sweeps Carson

RENO — Damonte swept the Carson boys and girls in a four-way meet Tuesday at Damonte Ranch. Damonte won the girls meet with 97, Carson had 89, Spanish Springs 62 and North Valleys 16. The Damonte boys had 105, Carson 84, Spanish Springs 63 and North Valleys 17.

On the girls side, Madison Preston won the long jump (16-3), high jump (5-2) and triple jump (34-4 1/2). The only other individual winner from Carson was Teresa Boehmer, who won the discus with a throw of 101-7.

Aaron Woodbury had an impressive meet, winning the triple jump (41-1 1/4), long jump (19-3 1/2) and pole vault (13-3).

Ian Schulz won the discus at 147-3 and Greg Wallace won the high jump (5-9).
