Kirkwood races coming up

Kirkwood Mountain Resort is the setting for the 34th annual Kirkwood 5K/10K Adventure Trail Run on Aug. 30, with a one mile and a half-mile fun run for kids at 9 a.m.

The 5K and 10K will start after the fun run.

The races are presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club and the Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department under special use permit from the Forest Service.

Race registration forms are available at: CV Sports in Carson City; Kahle Community Park in Stateline; SLT Recreation Center in South Lake Tahoe; Eclipse Running and Reno Running Company in Reno; or by calling 775-588-2864, Registration forms and online registration is also available on the website: www.tahoemtnmilers.org. Pre-registered runners postmarked by Aug.16 will be guaranteed a t-shirt. Early bird registration fees are $30.

Race day registration will be at the Kirkwood Main Lodge beginning at 8 a.m.

Race day registration is $40 for the 5K/10K which includes a chance to win a cross-country ski pass.

Registration still open

for Genoa Peak race

Registration is still open for the second annual Genoa Peak Madathon marathon and half-marathon races being held Saturday in Genoa.

Online registration closes tonight and sign-ups will be accepted up until Friday during packet pick-ups from noon until 6 p.m. at Genoa Park.

The marathon starts at 6 a.m. and the half-marathon at 6:30 a.m. from Genoa Park, located on Nixon Street in downtown Genoa.

The event features the “Completely Mad” marathon with more than 5,000 feet of climbing to the top of 9,150-foot Genoa Peak and back, as well as the “Only Half Mad” half-marathon course which rises to an altitude of 6,300 feet. Spectators will not be allowed on the course during the races.

Race director Kevin Bigley noted first responder medical services are being provided by Douglas County Search & Rescue, which is a beneficiary of proceeds from the race along with the Carson Valley Trails Association.

Event parking will be available at Antiques Plus, three blocks south of the center of town immediately after the post office.

Race walk championship

set for South Tahoe

The USATF Grand Prix Championship is set for Sunday at the Tahoe Middle School track starting at 9:30 a.m. with a men’s race to follow.

An All Comers Race Walk Clinic will be held as well as a men’s and women’s 1500-meter race, which won’t be judged.

Milligan wins Empire

Ranch event

Bill Milligan shot a net 59 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event on July 30.

Milligan topped John Hauck by five strokes. Mike Rogers, Henry Teague and Dennis Justin tied for third at 65. Ray McPartin won Flight B with a 63 over Gary Mick (63, lost in tiebreaker) and Adam Huber (65). Greg Bentley won Flight C in a tiebreaker over Bob Blom. Both had 64s. Bob Pluth was third with a 67.

Prause wins at

Carson Valley

Marc Prause shot a net 73 and won a tiebreaker over Marc Menezes for the Flight A win at Carson Valley Golf Club on Aug. 2.

Jack Sparman took third with a 76. David Morris won Flight B with a 66, three strokes better than Melvin Ness.

Roger Hala was third with a 70.

John Watson won Flight C with a 64, two shots better than John Pearson and eight better than Frank Temple.

Turner, Daylo, Sohl

grab junior wins

Nicholas Turner shot a 1-under-par 71 to win the 15-17 title at the recent Northern Nevada Junior Golf Association tournament on Monday.

K.C. Daylo won the boys 13-14 crown with an 88. Jax Sohl won the girls 13-17 with a 79.

Johnson Beauchman

tie for flight crown

Kevin Johnson and Milo Beauchman shot net 64s to tie for the Flight 1 title Sunday at Silver Oak Golf Club.

Jim Silsby and John Owens tied for third at 65. Robert Martin won Flight 2 with a net 63, while Freeman Johnson was second at 64 and Paul Jorgensen third at 65.
