Smith Valley Library Open for School Year

Smith Valley Library, 22 Day Lane, Smith Valley, will be open four days a week for the school year. Hours are 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Visit the library’s used book corner “Second Hand Prose”. Proceeds go to support the library.

The library also is hosting a back-to-school sale. The library also will hold workshops, including; reading and writing.

Benefit concert celebrating CVAC’s 10th anniversary

Champagne, candlelight and dancing to the sound of rising star, Charles Herrera, will be the setting for the Carson Valley Arts Council’s 10th anniversary celebration taking place at 6 p.m. Friday at the CVIC Hall. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Students with ID and children under 12 are $5. Dayton Valley Library to host book signing and discussion

The Friends of the Dayton Valley Library will host will host an author’s book discussion and sales at the Dayton Branch Library from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Wine and beer will be available for purchase. A donation of $3 will be asked at the door and the price of admission will entitle the patron to one glass of wine or a beer. Children are welcome for no charge as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Five local area writers will be available to sign books and talk about how they started writing. The writers include Christopher Coake from Reno, Lin Wilder from Smith Valley, Sally Whipple Mosher Mooney from Carson City, Suzanne Morgan Williams from Washoe Valley, and Ron Bell from Silver Springs.

Youth Outdoor Experience set Aug. 23

Western Nevada Calf Camp & Wild Sheep Foundation will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 23 at Capitol City Gun Club, 3590 Arrowhead Dr., in Carson City.

Fun family activities this year include: LaserShot, kid’s archery, including archery trap, RMEF inflatable BB-Gun Range, 4-H Shooting Sports, and more. A youth shooting clinic will follow on Sunday with the USAYES Team.

The highlight of the Calf Camp/YOE is the free live auction and raffle for kids. Kids can earn Kidz Bucks at each of the activities which can be used in the auction or to buy raffle tickets for prizes.
