Extension of Jump Around Carson bus service into evening hours and the next steps toward Carson City’s capital improvement projects will concern the Board of Supervisors on Thursday.

“Recent and past rider preference surveys, as well as direct requests to staff, suggest that there is a strong demand for JAC to provide service for a longer duration into the evening,” according to Transportation Manager Patrick Pittenger, writing in his agenda item report on the proposal.

The fiscal impact per year in future fiscal years was pegged at $60,000 if the board authorizes the plan put forth and considered recently by the Regional Transportation Commission.

Also on the Thursday agenda is authorization to issue $13.6 million in bonds for capital improvement projects, which could include the items in the plan of expenditure approved when the board previously enacted an increase in the city sales tax by one-eighth of a penny.

Among those projects are street scape upgrades on Carson Street downtown, to the north and south, as well as on East William Street. They also include an animal services facility, a multi-purpose athletic center and improvements for cultural events at the Community Center.

The board also will be asked Thursday for an extension until September of 2015 for the filing of a subdivision map to construct a planned unit development with 73 single family units that would be called Clearview Ridge.

The previously authorized PUD would be west of Cochise Street between West Roventini Way and West Overland Street.

In addition, the board will consider action on directing the city treasurer to sell, after notice, property for not less than the amount of back taxes, costs, penalties and interest. There are 27 parcels involved with the total amount due almost $371,031. Their appraised taxable value was listed as $6.6 million.

The meeting, as usual, begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room at the Community Center.
