A group of mothers is joining together with moms in more than 100 cities nationwide to rally to call attention to the state of maternal health care in the U.S.
The rally will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 1, Labor Day outside the Nevada State Legislature.
Sherese Settelmeyer said maternity care is in crisis when the nation is reporting one in three births by Cesarean section.
That, she said, is an indicator of “a system where the care we receive is shaped by many factors other than what is best for moms and babies — where nine out of 10 women receive care that increases rather than decreases the risks of harm to them and their babies.”
She said everyone who supports better, safer maternity care is urged to join this, the third annual rally, organized by the nonprofit group ImprovingBirth.org.
