Drone maker moving to Reno with 400 jobs by 2018

RENO — A manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles says it plans to move its new drone headquarters from Pasadena, California to Reno, and with it, hundreds of good-paying jobs

Officials for Ashima Devices expect 400 new jobs to be added by 2018 with a reported average salary of $70,000.

Gov. Brian Sandoval joined Ashima officials in making the announcement Tuesday with leaders of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the company’s committed to collaborating with the University of Nevada, Reno on programs to prepare students for occupations in the field.

Ashima’s newly developed, round drones called “Hexpucks” and not yet in production. They’ll be made mostly for law enforcement, fire and rescue to use as first-response reconnaissance with a range of about a half mile.
