Downtown 2020’s Olde Time Christmas Santa Parade — offering candy canes, hot chocolate, other treats and appearances by Father Christmas — from West Musser and Carson streets to Telegraph Square starts at 11 a.m. today. Santa will be at Rocking and Rolling, 402 N. Curry St., where Santa will be from 11:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. If the weather permits, vendors and face painters will be at Telegraph Square from 11:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. New and unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots will be collected at Telegraph Square, and See’s Candies will be available from members of the Lions Club. Santa Claus will be at the Carson Mall on Thursdays through Sundays for the next two weeks and Monday through Wednesday the following week. He will be taking requests from children and posing for photographs. His schedule will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursdays and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. He will be there 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 24.

Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City is hosting a gingerbread social and auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday for Food for Thought’s backpack food program in Storey County schools. The event offers a live and silent auction and raffle for the chance to win a 32-inch flat screen TV and other items.
Carson City Symphony’s 31st Holiday Treat concert at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center will include performances by Carson City Symphony Chorus and Norma Conway’s Victorian Dancers. Nevada State Railroad Museum’s Santa Train will run today and Sunday and next weekend. Hot chocolate, hot apple cider, coffee, bowls of chili and chili dogs will be on sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on each day at the depot, with proceeds benefitting the nonprofit Warren Engine Company No. 1. The first train departs at 9 a.m., the last at 4 p.m., on each day. All seats cost $3. Priority seating is available at the museum’s store from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday through Monday. Cherie Shipley and Lake Tahoe Entertainment will present the 13th annual Joyful Noise holiday show at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 in the Brewery Arts Center’s MHJ Black Box Theater. The program includes traditional songs as well as a Christmas conga, bluegrass Santa train and a reggae holiday tune. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and cost $15 for adults, $12 for members and seniors and $8 for children ages 6-13. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free.
