A gasoline pricing collapse this holiday season continued in Carson City, as well as in Nevada and across the nation, according to reports Monday.
In Carson City, for example, prices at the pump of about $2.16 per gallon for unleaded regular were posted at least in four places, according to GasBuddy.com. There were 12 outlets offering a gas price of less than $2.25 a gallon in Nevada’s capital city based on reports over the previous 13 hours listed on that website.
Average retail gas prices in Nevada had fallen 6.7 cents per gallon in the past week, and across the state they were averaging $2.51 a gallon based on a survey through Sunday at 1,130 Silver State outlets. In the previous week, the one heading into Christmas last Thursday, gas prices had dropped in Nevada by 11 cents from the week before. The declines came in the shank of the 2014 holiday gift buying season.
GasBuddy.com said Monday the change in gas prices across the state, as they reached the $2.51 pump price this week, amounted to a decline of 76.2 cents per gallon in comparison with a year earlier.
The website reported the national average has decreased 50.6 cents per gallon during the past month, while the state average was down 47.2 cents in the same month-long period.
“The dramatic decline at the pump continues to reap significant savings for the motoring public,” said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy’s senior petroleum analyst. He said it exceeds $525 million in savings every day nationally on motor fuel in comparison with just last summer.
The website showed in Carson City, the lowest pump prices were at Costco on Old Clear Creek Road; Eagle Gas, 1360 S. Carson St.; Country Store, 3389 U.S. 50 East;, and JM Gas & Liquor, 1321 N. Carson St. Those were listed at $2.16. Others listed: at $2.21, a trio of ARCO stations at 4190 S. Carson St., 2707 U.S. 50 East and 720 S. Carson St.; while at $2.22 there were four outlets, the Smith’s at 505 E. William St., the Quik Stop at 3006 N. Roop St., the 7-Eleven outlet at 3701 N. Carson St., and Maverik at 1451 W. College Parkway. The ARCO station at 4340 N. Carson St. rounded out the lowest dozen listed with its pricing of about $2.24 a gallon as of mid-afternoon on Monday.
