Prep Roundup: Vikings rally for win against Dust Devils

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — South Tahoe erased an 11-point halftime deficit en route to a 64-49 win on Tuesday.

Dayton coach Jason Santos said the Dust Devils ran into foul trouble. Austin Fletcher missed the third quarter with foul trouble and that hurt the Dust Devils.

Dayton was 6-for-17 from the free throw line.

“Free throw shooting and our inability to handle man pressure down the stretch cost us,” Santos said.

Davis Winebarger led the team with 15 points. Steve Thompson and Bernardo Macias each had 11 points for Dayton.

Dayton is 5-8 in league.

McQueen 78, Douglas 57

Douglas is now 7-6 in league, 11-9 overall after Tuesday’s loss. McQueen improved to 3-8 in the High Desert League, 7-15 overall.

McQueen led 45-29 at halftime.

VARSITY GIRLS

Douglas 58, McQueen 43

Douglas is now 18-6 and 11-2 following Tuesday’s win. The Tigers are riding a seven-game win streak.

Carson 46, Spanish Springs 42

Greg Wallace and Kyle Krebs scored 13 points a piece in Carson’s win on Tuesday. Jace Keema added seven points for the 19-2 Senators.

JV GIRLS

Carson 30, Spanish Springs 26

SPARKS — Brianna Alvarado scored 12 points to lead Carson to a narrow win Tuesday night.

Melissa Glanzmann added six for the Senators, who improved to 19-8.

FROSH GIRLS

Carson 41, Spanish Springs 36

Josie Share scored 17 points in the Carson freshmen girls’ win on Tuesday. Jenae Steele added nine points and Anya Woodbury scored six.

Carson improves to 18-1.

Weston Hill scored four points in Dayton’s loss on Tuesday.

Carson 41, Spanish Springs 30

Brandon Gagnon hit three free throws with 13 seconds left to send Carson into overtime against Spanish Springs. Carson took over from there. Gagnon led the team with nine points. Geraet Rauh added eight points and seven rebounds.

JC SOFTBALL

WNC loses on Monday

HENDERSON — Gulf Coast snapped a 4-4 tie with three fifth-inning runs en route to a 9-4 win over the Wildcats, dropping them to 2-3 on the season.

WNC opens Scenic West play with doubleheaders against College of Southern Idaho on Wednesday and Thursday.

WNC scored twice in the first thanks to a run-scoring double by Katilyn Covione and a sacrifice fly by Cara McCarthy. Gulf Coast scored three in the first off WNC starter Lindsey Ashbaugh, who gave way to Carlee Beck.

McCarthy’s double tied the game at 4 in the fifth, but the Wildcats left the bases loaded. Kelbi Davis singled in two runs for Gulf Coast in the fifth to make it 6-4, but a homer by Megan Griffith led the way to the final three Gulf Coast runs in the sixth.

Madi Gonzalez, Covione and Heather Septon had two hits apiece in the losing effort.

JC Baseball

WNC pounds Pima

The Western Nevada baseball team evened its record Tuesday with an 11-0 win over Pima College in Tuscon, Ariz.,

WNC scored one run in the first and second innings before adding four in the third inning. The Wildcats added two in the fifth and three runs in the seventh.

Conor Harber and Alex Fife each had three hits. Corey Pool, Connor Klein and Sam Hall all added two hits. Klein had three RBIs. Joey Crunkilton had a hit and two RBIs. Austin Andrews was hitless but had two RBIs.

Jeremy Alderman picked up the win on the mound. He gave up three hits and two walks, while striking out five in five innings. Kyle Pruneau gave up four hits in two innings of relief.

WNC, 2-2 plays Pima at 2:30 p.m. today.
