The Greenwave wrestling team performed strongly at the Northern Division I-A duals last weekend in Fernley, placing third out of nine teams.

Fallon, which had three wrestlers finish with unblemished records, lost a close dual to Spring Creek for second-place as Lowry flexed its muscles to an undefeated recorded against the division. Fallon knocked off Dayton (60-18), Elko (44-36), Fernley (48-30), South Tahoe (60-18), Sparks (54-15) and Truckee (72-0) but lost to Lowry (60-21) and Spring Creek (46-30).

All nine teams from the Division I-A North will compete in the regional tournament this weekend in Sparks as the top four wrestlers in each weight class advances to the state tournament next week in Las Vegas.

For the Greenwave, Anthony Sabatino (126 pounds), Sam Goings (138) and Trae Workman (145) helped Fallon garner many points during the duals with only one win among the three resulting in decision. The rest either came by pin, forfeit or injury default.

Sabatino’s closest battle of the weekend came against Lowry when he squeaked by with a 7-4 win. He finished with four first-round pins and an injury default. Goings won all his matches by pin or forfeit as he recorded pins against all teams but Sparks and Truckee. Workman didn’t allow a single point in his eight wins with six coming by pin, including four in the first period.

Dakota Schelling (195) and Ricky Rogers (220) each lost one bout in eight tries, while Robert White (132) and Jesse Francki (182) each finished at 6-2.

Schelling’s lone loss came to Lowry, but he pinned Sparks, Spring Creek and Fernley foes and recorded a 17-2 technical fall against Elko. Rogers’ only lost came against Spring Creek but he recorded a pin against Lowry and Elko.

White recorded three pins to go with three forfeits but lost to Lowry and Spring Creek by pin. Half of Francki’s wins came from pin as he defeated South Tahoe, Sparks and Spring Creek, but lost to Fernley and Lowry.

Terry White (106), Tucker Stritenberger and Dylan McAfee (113), Jordan Schultz and Nathan Heck (152), Brock Uptain (160), and Wyatt Hampton (285) each saw action with only White suiting up for all duals, excluding forfeits.

Two of White’s wins came against Dayton when he recorded a first-round pin and then outlasted Elko for a 14-12 decision. In the 113s, Stritenberger and McAfee didn’t record any wins outside of forfeits from South Tahoe, Sparks and Truckee.

Schultz and Heck each recorded a pin in the 152s as they traded off during the duals. Heck also lost a tough 15-12 battle to Sparks. Uptain recorded one win against South Tahoe but lost to Fernley and Spring Creek. Hampton pinned his Fernley opponent in the second round but lost 3-2 to Spring Creek.
