Della Trillis Martin was born May 22, 1927 in Pocatello, Idaho, to Della Edith Bertwell Morgan and Lester Francis Morgan. The family moved to California, settling in San Pablo in 1946. She met her beloved husband, Philip Randolph Martin, in San Francisco and they were married November 30, 1947. Phil was serving in the United States Navy at Treasure Island. They spent his Navy Career moving around the country, and raising their 6 children. Phil retired in 1966 from Pt. Sur, California and they began the next phase of their lives in Big Sur, California working at the Big Sur Lodge. Trillis was the office manager at the Lodge, retiring in 1991. Trillis and Phil then moved back to the home Trillis had settled into as a teenager in San Pablo, California, and in 1996 they moved to Fallon, Nevada to be near their daughter. Trillis was an accomplished seamstress, teaching her 5
daughters the craft at early ages. She sampled the needle arts from spinning and weaving to smocking, leaving behind a beautiful body of work. Trillis and Phil were never happier than when hosting big family gatherings. She lost her beloved Phil in 2007, and she entered into eternal life February 13, 2014.Trillis was preceded in death by her loving husband and her parents. She leaves behind her children who love her dearly, Sharon (Gil) Mumma, of Warrenton, MO, Margaret (Albert) Vallaster, of Fallon, NV, Elizabeth (John) Johansen of Fallon, NV, Jennifer Holding of Fallon, NV, Dianne Weilacher of Fallon, NV, and David (Diane) Martin of Seaside, CA. She also leaves 17 grandchildren, Russell (Marissa) Mumma, Jennifer (Sam) Said, Joanna, Mark and Marianne Mumma, Albert (Aya), Aaron (Laurie) and Adam (Elizabeth) Vallaster, Trillis (Tony) Bake, Brian Johansen, Linnea Weilacher, Lisa (Ron) Bowen, Loren Holding, Iree (Calvin) Edwards, Lorraine Holding, and Jacob and Logan Martin, and 17 great-grandchildren, and her dear sister-in-law, Marilyn Milburn of Louisville, KY. Trillis’s family would like to thank her friends of St. Patrick’s Church in Fallon for their friendship and visits that made her happy in her last years, and the Nurses and C.N.A.’s at South Lyon Medical Center who made her final days so comfortable. You will be missed forever, Mom.Arrangements are being made by Smith Family Funeral of Fallon, NV. A funeral mass will be held at 1100am, Wednesday, (today)February 19th at St. Patrick’s Church, Fallon, NV, celebrated by Father Tony. She will be laid to rest with Phil at the Fernley Veteran’s Cemetery immediately following the mass.
