Jon Hager has resigned as the executive director of the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange.

His last day with the agency will be March 14.

“The knowledge and experiences I have gained as executive director of the exchange will prove invaluable in my working career,” he said in a statement, adding, “It is time to use my new found knowledge to pursue the opportunities that have been offered to me.”

Hager could not be reached for comment.

The exchange has come under some fire recently — primarily over the problems its contractor, Xerox, has had in getting the exchange website, NevadaHealthlink.com, and the call center to help people sign up for an insurance plan working properly. There have been numerous complaints about hourlong wait times on the phone and glitches that have prevented people from getting signed up through the Internet.

Those complaints have not been directly aimed at Hager and his staff but at Xerox, which has promised an all-out effort to fix the problems.

The exchange governing board will select Hager’s replacement.
