Proficiency tests

The Nevada proficiency tests will be given at the Adult Ed Building at 255 E. Stillwater Ave., (East Building) from March 3-7. The math, science and reading proficiencies will be given all five days but the writing proficiency will only be given March 5. The testing time starts at 8:30 a.m., and the last test will be given by 2 p.m. each day. Call to make arrangements if special testing times are needed.


Health care questions

A representative will be able to answer your health care questions on March 15 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Job Connect, 121 Industrial Way.


Blood drive

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Blood Drive hosted by the Knights of Columbus will be held March 1.

The Blood Drive is from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Church Hall on 850 W. 4th St. For appointments or information, contact Pat at 775-423-2436. Walk-ins are welcome.


Beta Sigma Phi

Beta Sigma Phi, Preceptor Zeta presents a night of dinner and music at the Churchill County Museum on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. featuring the acoustic duo of Kathie Olson Hull and Dave Marino from “After Midnight.”

They will perform a wide variety of music from classic rock to contemporary hits.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any Preceptor Zeta Member, the Churchill County Museum, Jeff’s Digitex Printing or call Clara Jean Olson at 775-423-4884.


Relay for Life

ROCCC meeting

The Restore Our College Campus Committee (ROCCC) will meet Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., at the City Hall Council Chambers.

Among the agenda items will be a review of the Jan. 28 meeting of one of the SB 391 subcommittees, Governance and Funding of Community Colleges. ROCCC members are encouraged to attend. The general public including WNC Fallon faculty are also welcome.


Class of 1964

The Churchill County High School class of 1964 is seeking the addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of class members in order to invite them to the 50th reunion in August in Fallon.

Dinner and a no-host cocktail party are scheduled for Aug. 15. Pre-registration is Aug. 14.

Details about preregistration, tours of major new Churchill County businesses and other activities on Aug. 14-17 will be announced after the March 7 meeting of the reunion committee. Graduates will be encouraged to attend the all-class reunion events slated for Aug. 16-17 as part of the Mayor’s NV 150 Commission. These events, which include a gathering at Oats Park on Aug. 16, are part of the State of Nevada’s sesquicentennial celebration.

High school equivalence classes

WNC Fallon will be offering free HSE classes for students interested in attaining their high school equivalence diploma. Registration for these classes will be held the first Monday and Tuesday of each month and is on going. You must attend both days of registration.

Elks benefit dinner

Fallon Elks Lodge is offering a roast pig dinner with all the trimmings for $10 to support battered and neglected children.

The dinner is March 1 at beginning at 5 p.m. for cocktails and 6 p.m. dinner.

Raffles, auctions and dancing tunes by the Carson River Band.

Buy tickets at the Elks Lodge, 93 W. Center St., weekdays from 3-8 p.m., and Saturday from noon-8 p.m.


Grad Nite dinner

The Safe and Sober Grad Night spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be held Feb. 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 90 North Ada Street. The cost is $5 per person.

Republican women lunch

Lahontan Valley Republican Women will hold their lunch meeting on Feb. 26 at noon in the Old Post Office,90 N. Maine Street.

Volunteer with Highland activities

The activities department at Highland Village of Fallon is in search of volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to help out with reading books, listen to a life story, write a letter, arts & crafts, bingo, special events and the list goes on. LVCC rehearsals

Lahontan Valley Concert Choir began rehearsals on Feb. 18 at Epworth Methodist Church located at 280 E. Stillwater Ave. Sing songs of the past and present and be part of something special. No experience necessary just the desire to sing. Our spring concert is scheduled for May 8.


Spring Basket celerbation

It’s time for the Spring Basket Auction sponsored by the Churchill Library Association.

Create a basket on the theme of your choice; gardening, your business, food, flowers, or whatever strikes your fancy. Deliver it to the Churchill County Library between March 10-April 7.

It will be displayed in the library with a card identifying you as the donor. All baskets will be sold in a silent auction beginning March 10.

Bidding will close at 3 p.m. on April 10. Winners can pick up their Spring Baskets any time the Library is open. All funds raised will benefit the Churchill County Library.

Radio club meeting

Community Service Thrift Shop

The thrift store is located at 169 E. Center St. Hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

We are a non-profit organization run by a group of dedicated community volunteers. We accept donations of clean, resalable dishes, clothing, toys, books, small appliances, and furniture. We do not have room for bicycles, beds, couches or large televisions. We receive donations at the back door from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.

Presidents Day Sale, half-price on items that are red, white and/or blue. Sale is all week.

American Legion

The American Legion at 90 N. Ada St., Friday night dinners are open to the public. A $5 donation is asked.
On the first Friday each month the Sons of the American Legion has a fish fry. The second Friday is Bubba Burgers and all the fixings. Third Friday dinners are canceled until further notice. The fourth and fifth Fridays are steak dinners.
Lunch is served 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Street tacos, $1 each or four for $3, are served on Thursdays. Prime rib sandwiches are served the fourth Thursday each month.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

The VFW in Fallon has an Omelet in a Bag Breakfast the third Saturday of each month.

Story Time is held each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. In addition to stories, children can make a simple craft.

Hearts of Gold Quilters

The Hearts of Gold Quilters meets every Thursday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Fallon Convention Center, 100 Campus Way. All quilters are welcome. We are a group of 40 busy quilters who meet weekly to make donation quilts, as well as working on our own projects. An average of 80 quilts per year are donated to our community.


Serendipity Bookstore

The Serendipity Bookstore at 507 S. Maine St. features used books for sale from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Proceeds benefit the Churchill County Library.

ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada is a nonprofit organization that provides English tutoring at no cost through the help of volunteer tutors.

Child support enforcement services are available through the Churchill County District Attorney’s office. The staff may be able to help establish parentage and help obtain a child support order to include medical support. Pick up an application at the Churchill County Child Support Office at 165 N.
