READER TAKES ON NEWSPAPER COLUMNIST OVER OBAMA’S ACA
Editor:
LVN columnist Jeanette Strong started her literary New Year with yet another article of misinformation.
Firstly, she gives the HEART(Health equity and access reform today) credit for fore running the ACA even though the HEART of 1993 was proposed by a Republican, but not a Republican plan. The HEART was so unpopular that the bill was not even voted on. It was also vastly different in terms of funding and execution of the health insurance system. Using what the President of all “57 states” says as fact is a stance on shaking ground, at best.
Why does Strong call Laffer ignorant when he derides the post office? Does Strong know a different post office? An article one page before hers on the paper discusses the new postage rate increase. Three times that which the current inflation would deem necessary.
Triumphantly pointing at the one million people that have ‘gotten health insurance due to the ACA, she conveniently overlooks three million who lost their coverage without getting a replacement. Health insurance is optional, many of the ‘40 million’ who did not have insurance before the ACA did not even want insurance.
The Republican plan to replace the
ACA, which she ignores, is to return to the insurance system we had before the ACA- private companies. However, since no truthful praise can be found for Obamacare, it is logical that one must resort to name-calling, misrepresentation of facts, and lying.
