Prep Roundup: Tigers roll over Wooster

MINDEN — An 11-0 run to end the first half Friday night put the Douglas girls basketball team on track to a 52-32 Sierra League win at home against Wooster.

Maddy Lowe scored 17 points and Leonna Mortimer added 12 for the Tigers (15-6, 8-2).

The two teams were tied at 14 after one quarter and Wooster led 19-14 with 4:46 left before halftime.

McKenna Kynett converted a takeaway into a breakaway layup to ignite the Tigers’ run. Lowe followed with a pair of free throws and then scored on a breakaway layup, assisted by Kynett, to put the Tigers on top 20-19 with 1:03 left in the period. Jessie Jim capped off the run when she buried a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from the left wing, assisted by Katie McCullough.


Lowry 52, Dayton 19

LOWRY — Dayton’s Angela Sikora scored 10 points in the Dust Devils loss.

“We struggled a lot on offense to execute,” coach Ben Halverson said. “Lowry brings great pressure and that’s still something we struggle against in the half court.”

Dayton only dressed seven players because of injuries and SAT testing.

Dayton fell to 1-8 in league, 1-12 overall. Dayton plays at 2 p.m. today at Sparks.


VARSITY BOYS

Douglas 54, Wooster 38

MINDEN — James Herrick and Austin Evans combined to score 27 points Friday night for the Douglas High boys in its win against Wooster.

Herrick scored 15 points, including a fast break dunk at the outset of the fourth quarter that gave Douglas (10-7 overall, 6-4 league) a 41-31 lead. Evans scored 12 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Herrick also grabbed 12 rebounds.

Alex Tessman also scored eight points while Pat Johnson contributed seven points to go with six assists.

Douglas led by as many as 16 points in the third quarter before Wooster rallied to pull within 39-31 at the end of the period.


JV BOYS

Carson 56, Galena 39

Carson cruised to an easy win behind Jayden DeJoseph’s 12 points on Friday.

Cody Azevedo added eight points. Greg Wallace and Julian Alvarado each added seven points. Carson improves to 16-2 on the year.


JV GIRLS

Carson 36, Galena 26

Andrea Maffei and Brianna Alvarado scored nine points each to lead the Senators to an easy win Friday at home.

Melissa Glanzmann added six points.


Lowry 51, Dayton 6

Patty Ledezma scored four points and Madi Reid added a basket in the Dust Devils’ lopsided loss to Lowry on Friday.


FROSH BOYS

Lowry 51, Dayton 21

Jorddy Diaz scored six points to lead Dayton in the Dust Devils loss at Lowry Friday night. Diaz added five steals. Jason Sanborn and Weston Hill each scored four points for Dust Devils. Coach Kevin Ply said Chris Beatty, Max Madsen played a strong game underneath for the Dust Devils.


Carson 36, Galena 33

Sevon Mandoki scored 11 points in Carson’s win Friday night. Geraet Rauh added 10 points for the 16-3 Senators.


FROSH GIRLS

Carson 54, Galena 7

RENO — Josie Share scored 12 points to lead the Senators to an easy road win.

Haydyn Thom and Mallory Otto added eight points apiece, while Sophie Ruedy and Shaili Sandefer added six each.
