The Churchill County School Board approved at their Thursday meeting to move forward with proposals for an auxiliary high school gym.
Churchill County School District Superintendent Dr. Sandra Sheldon discussed what the gym would offer. She was informed by the gym exploratory committee that for safety reasons, the plan should include a separate wrestling room, storage room, a double room that will be able to hold classes and a weight area. She said the extra space would allow for students to use the gym without raising any safety concerns.
Sheldon said the building would probably be about 26,000 square feet. Sheldon said a concept of the gym has been drawn up for viewing, but it is not the final plan and can be changed.
Trustee Clay Hendrix motioned that the gym exploratory committee get proposals for the gym by getting a design plan and the cost of the gym with an itemized list. Every trustee agreed and approved the motion.
