140 Years Ago

On the 11th of July at the residence of Mr. N. J. Roff in Reno, after a short but severe illness, Persia Bowers, age 12 years, only daughter of Mrs. Bowers of Bowers’ Mansion, died. A few days ago Persia was well and happy. She returned from her home near Franktown to Mr. Roff’s where she was attending school. Nothing serious was apprehended until a few days later, when she suddenly grew worse and notwithstanding all the efforts of skill and affection, continued to sink, suffering intense pain. It was then that her spirit returned to him who gave it. Her mother has to deplore the present loss of one of the most affectionate and obedient of daughters. Her schoolmates have lost one of the most kind, congenial and generous companions. The Earth has been robbed of a rare flower, but only that it may bloom in a more congenial clime ...
