Clear Creek fire expected to be contained Saturday

Crews have the Clear Creek fire 35 percent contained the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center said at 6 p.m..

The 187-acre wildfire remains active on the northwest flank of the fire — the steep side on the south side of Clear Creek Canyon.

The afternoon wind resulted in some spotting, but crews were able to address them quickly.

An evacuation for about 40 homes in the Clear Creek Subdivision was lifted this morning.

Full containment is expected by Saturday.

Three hand crews, five command staff, three engines and 80 fire personnel are currently working the fire.

Animals can be taken to Fuji Park. The evacuation center at the Carson City Community Center was closed about 10 a.m. Thursdays as residents were able to return to their homes

Lighting started the fire at about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday on the ridge separating Jacks Valley from Clear Creek Canyon.

Eleven hand crews worked through the night to build a line a quarter way around the fire.

City Manager Nick Marano told the Carson City Board of Supervisors this morning that Fire Chief Stacey Giomi, “expects a positive outcome,” for today’s efforts against the fire.

“All in all, it was a bad event, but it could have been worse,” Marano said.

No homes or outbuildings have been reported damaged or destroyed.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is asking motorists to try and avoid traveling on Highway 50 from Highway 395 to Highway 28 (Spooner Summit). If motorists are unable to avoid this area crews are asking that travelers use extra caution. Drivers are asked to slow down and watch out for any and all emergency personnel and their equipment and other motorists on the highway.

Fire crews are heading to Old Clear Creek and Golf Club Drive near Highway 28 for a lightning-caused wildfire that was reported at 3:48 p.m. Another lightning-caused fire also was reported on Genoa Peak at 3:32 p.m.
