Three of Fallon’s top athletes had solid showings at the 2014 National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo., last week.
Sydney Howard and Caleb and Cord Hendrix each placed in the top 20 in at least one round of their respective events.
Howard, who will rodeo at Feather River (Calif.) College in the fall, tied for 17th in goat tying after the second round with a time of 8.55 seconds. She also placed second in her performance with that run.
She also tied for 40th in breakaway roping, but improved to 31st overall after the second round. Howard’s first run netted a time of 12.47 seconds and she followed with a time of 6.75 in the second go.
Caleb Hendrix finished 15th overall after the second round in cutting with 142 points, 10 behind the winner and eventual national champion, Samray Hooper of Andrews, Texas. Hendrix tied for third in his group.
Hendrix’s brother, Cord, tied for 20th in the second round.
Cord Hendrix placed seventh in boys cutting in his first go with 134 points and finished tied for 41st in cutting overall after the first round. Caleb Hendrix was 68th with 124.
The brothers finished 22nd in team roping after the second round with a time of 9.44.
Jessica Gomes also qualified for the nationals in girls cutting, but failed to place. Fellow Fallon Rodeo Club member Mackay Spyrow qualified for nationals in team roping but also did not place.
