A five-hour manhunt in Ruhenstroth on Tuesday night resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly took his 12-year-old son after an argument with his wife.
Robert Diaz, 37, is being held in Douglas County Jail on $50,000 bail facing charges of child endangerment and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities responded to a home on Derby Court at about 6 p.m. after a report of a domestic dispute.
Diaz’ wife told them they had an argument and Diaz left with the boy on foot.
Members of the Douglas County Special Weapons and Tactics team, Search and Rescue, and Washoe County’s Raven 1 helicopter searched the area for Diaz and his son until about 9:30 p.m.
Capt. John Milby said a few deputies held back and waited to see if Diaz would turn up.
He was spotted walking near Pine Nut Road in Gardnerville around 10:55 p.m., and the boy was returned safely to his mother.
“I’d like to thank the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and residents of Ruhenstroth for their assistance in locating Diaz,” Sheriff Ron Pierini said.
