Cindy Hannah, Carson City’s animal services manager since early December 2013, is no longer serving in that role, City Manager Nick Marano announced Thursday.
”She’s out the door today,” he said, when asked if the leave-taking involved a two weeks notice period. At the same time, he said she did a great job during a transitional period.
“I’m just going to take things in a different direction,” Marano said.
He also said an overnight break-in at the Animal Services Shelter on Butti Way, during which petty cash got stolen, wasn’t related to the personnel matter. “The two things have nothing to do with each other,” he said.
Hannah worked at the city’s Health and Human Services Department for about three years before she moved to animal services, which is overseen by and part of HHS. Her pay as animal services manager was $63,440 annually, or more than $5,200 monthly.
Marano, who started as city manager June 2, declined to give details for the record Thursday on his plans for taking animal services shelter management in a different direction. He said it would be announced later.
The city intends to build a $3.9 million animal shelter to replace the one it has been using for years, a project already approved. That project is slated to begin after completion of designs and following a multi-purpose athletic center costing more than $8 million. The Board of Supervisors on July 17 authorized issuance of $13.6 million in bonds to help finance those two projects, downtown streetscape improvements and other plans later.
