The annual Fallon Community Day invites residents to join the fun on Saturday morning at Oats Park with a variety of activities for adults and children.
The event, which runs from 8 a.m. until noon, is being presented in partnership with the Fallon Elks Lodge, Churchill County Social Services and Churchill Community Coalition.
One of the hallmark activities of the morning is the free clothing give-away at the Oat Park Gym from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For the past two months, people brought in clothing by the bags.
“It went well,” said Holly Meader, project coordinator with Social Services, of the donations. “We have a super-abundance of clothes, and the ladies are getting them set up.“
Meader said the clothes will be organized by size and gender today.
In addition to the clothing give-away, a free swim is planned for the morning as is a free barbecue.
Meader said the Elks served about 600 barbecue lunches and gave away 400 backpacks during last year’s community day.
Besides the three major events, the community day also has other free activities such as bounce houses, haircuts and school supplies. Volunteers will conduct a car seat safety/install demonstration, and local law enforcement will show off the K-9 unit.
Other information includes medical information for children, women’s health, registration for free youth dental checkups, parenting information, low income/housing rehabilitation, food stamp/welfare applications, emergency preparedness and library card signups.
This is the third year the Fallon Community Day has been held. Meader said attendance was good for the past two years.
