The intent on the tapis, in Carson, is a brass band. Charley Friend took out his horn yesterday and made a few initial toots. The musicians of Carson lack harmony. They are (in the words of one of the fraternity) a set of inharmonious cusses. We hope the music makers of the proposed organization will not ignore the beauty of harmony.

130 years ago

Mark Twain says he has retired from the lecture platform. The great trouble with Mark, says the S.F. Exchange, was that notwithstanding he had $200 a night, it made him mad when he spoke to a $300 house and realized someone else was making the $100. He considered it highway robbery.

100 years ago

The regular monthly meeting of the board of county commissioners was held at the courthouse. Final repairs are being made to King’s Canyon Road. In the future the county will have the services of 10 inmates for 41 days or 41 men for 10 days to repair the roadway.

70 years ago

The Carson Hot Springs will reopen June 17 under the management of Richard L. Waters and Wayne McLeod. McLeod and Waters have leased the Springs for four years and will operate the baths and clubhouse. They have several tentative plans hampered by the shortage of material and personnel.

50 years ago
