Died and kept his secret. In the San Francisco dispatches to the Gold Hill News of last evening, we are informed that Maxey, who is supposed to have shot Caldwell a few weeks since and then shot himself, but who claimed that Caldwell shot him and then committed suicide, died today in the county hospital from the effects of his wound. The true secret of the terrible tragedy died with him.

William Dangberg, head of the Dangberg company of Carson Valley, came up from Minden this morning to meet with state officials. Dangberg invited all valley residents to participate in Carson Valley Day, June 11.

Claire Shaughnessy, high school class of ’44 graduate, has enlisted in the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corps. Miss Shaughnessy is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Shaughnessy of Carson City.

Mrs. Robert B. (Rose) Parker was elected as president of District III of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at the annual District Convention held at Crystal Bay, Lake Tahoe.
