The Nevada Division of State Parks is offering free canoe trips along the Carson River from just below Lahontan Dam to Diversion Dam west of Fallon.
This event is great for beginners who can learn the basics of canoeing. Canoes, paddles and life jackets will be provided, but participants need to bring sun block and drinking water.
Space is limited; call 775-867-3500 for reservations. The event is free, and the park’s entrance fee is waived for participants.
The days of the canoe trip are as follows: Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; June 26 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; June 27 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; and June 28 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
To get to the canoe area, turn south of Lahontan Dam Road from U.S. Highway 50. Drive past the bridge, over the Carson River and stay on the paved road to the park’s main entrance.
Celebrate Nevada’s sesquicentennial on Saturday in conjunction with National Get Outdoors Day. Visitors may enjoy a free day use admission and free fishing at all of Nevada’s 23 state parks.
