“It is a great thing to start life with a small number of really good books which are your very own.” Arthur Conan Doyle
The library is here to help the youth in this community start a library of their very own, as suggested by Mr. Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes who, I’m thinking, knows a few things about reading and writing.
FIZZ BOOM READ, the 2014 Summer Reading Program is designed to keep reading skills high during the summer months when school is out. And to have a good time doing it! Simply come to the library and sign up. Each child receives a log to record books that were read (or read to them) during the week. Bring your completed log to the library each week and receive a book to keep. All programs are free of charge.
This year’s program includes many science based events. The library will host a reading related program each Thursday beginning June 19. Topics include children’s theatre, juggling, magic, animals, and a clown. Self-directed science activities will be available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the library. And especially for teens: Einstein’s Cosmic Café which requires advance signup.
The library has books and other material on a wide range of topics; both fiction and non-fiction for a full summer of entertainment.
Join the FIZZ BOOM READ fun at the library and start “your very own” home library. A program schedule is available at the library.
The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Churchill Library Association, Churchill County Communications Independent Telecommunications Pioneer Association, and the Officer Spouses’ Club at NAS Fallon.
Upcoming events include the following:
Storytime
The library offers Storytime each Wednesday at 10:30-11:30 a.m. The program includes books, stories and a craft.
Carol Lloyd is the director of the Churchill County Library. She is available at the library or by email at celloyd@clan.lib.nv.us.
