Angle-backed voter initiatives off ballot

RENO — Organizers of a pair of conservative Nevada ballot measures have failed to deliver signature petitions needed to meet the deadline to qualify either their health insurance or voter ID initiative for the November election.

Voter registrars in Clark and Washoe counties told The Associated Press they had received no petitions by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

That was the deadline for ballot-backers to present more than 100,000 signatures, including 25,000 from each of Nevada’s four congressional districts.

It means neither measure can qualify for the November general election.

Former GOP U.S. Senate hopeful Sharron Angle helped organize the proposed constitutional amendments. One would have required voters to present photo identification at the polls. The other would have banned a state health insurance exchange in Nevada.
