Responding to Mack editorial
I am not one to write a letter to the editor, but after reading an editorial submitted by Doreen Mack to the Nevada Appeal on June 15, I feel I must respond.
Although Ms. Mack may have had good intentions in honoring our two civic leaders who just passed, Mayor Marv Teixeira and Gene Paslov, I felt she glossed over their numerous achievements and the time they invested to further our community. Instead, she used the editorial to address her personal agenda seeking membership in her organization. If the editorial had been written by Ms. Mack, a Carson City resident, instead of Doreen Mack, Downtown 20/20 president and owner of Lofty Expressions, it may have been more appropriate. I pray this was not offensive to the families.

Have a fun and safe Fourth of July
This Fourth of July, Americans will toast the country’s independence with friends, family and fireworks. Before celebrations get underway, Capital Beverages reminds adults 21 and older to show their patriotism by designating a driver or skipper to help keep everyone safe. By doing so, they’ll join the millions of American adults who have been a designated driver or designated skipper or been driven home by one.
Here are additional tips for safer celebrations during the holiday:
Buckle up. Ask everyone to wear a seatbelt or a life jacket.
Be an attentive driver. Always be in control and aware of those around you.
Don’t speed. Resist the urge to speed by making sure there’s plenty of time to reach your destination.
Drink responsibly. Adults 21 and older who choose to drink should make responsible choices about when, where and how much.
We can all do our part to make sure everyone has a fun and safe holiday.
