PAC has nothing to hide

This is a response to false charges made by supporters of Jim Wheeler concerning the Nevada Republican Majority PAC. The attacks claimed the PAC was “anonymous” and that I am “the sole member.”

Here are the facts: The Nevada Republican Majority PAC is registered with the Nevada Secretary of State — a matter of public record. The PAC has made contribution and expenditure reports as required by law — timely and complete. The PAC has numerous donors — both individuals and organizations, all from Nevada. My financial contribution to the PAC was less than 4 percent of the total.

Wheeler supporters attacked the PAC’s advertising, describing it as “mudslinging,” “vile,” “gutter politics,” “lies,” “manure in the barnyard,” etc.

Missing in their attacks were any specifics on what facts were untrue. The PAC ads recited news accounts of Wheeler’s outlandish comments on slavery, negative reactions from fellow Republicans, and the conservative Las Vegas Review-Journal’s call for Wheeler’s immediate resignation as “unfit for public service;” referenced Channel 4 and the Reno Gazette-Journal on Wheeler’s questionable claim of residency in the district; cited news accounts concerning the ethics complaint against Wheeler and the Nevada Secretary of State’s order to amend his disclosure statements to correct facts and to include an undisclosed $6,168 tax lien; identified a Las Vegas Review-Journal news story rating Wheeler a D+ in a poll of fellow legislators, lobbyists and reporters.

As Ronald Reagan said, “Facts can be stubborn things.”

Don’t drink and drive, stay alive

With the roads clear of snow and ice and with rain being scarce at times, drivers find themselves traveling faster than they should when operating their vehicles down the roads in and around Carson City. When you add alcohol into the mix, the chances of a crash are increased dramatically.

Summertime is when we enjoy being out with friends and family picnicking, barbecuing or just enjoying a day at the beach. If you are going to be drinking alcoholic beverages, use some common sense and designate a driver to get everyone home safely.

When driving, you need to have your head clear and your reflexes ready for the unexpected. The winding roadways that are common in our area need your full attention. Don’t drink and drive, stay alive.
