Fandango’s responsible dance

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: We can’t keep resisting the pun, but the Casino Fandango stepped forward to end the parking dance NV150 Fair organizers and the city were going through. The Casino Fandango is providing enough parking for about 700 to 800 for the event to be held at Fuji Park, which we’re sure is a huge load off of those organizing the event.

SILVER DOLLAR: And while we’re at it, we want to recognize a few of those who work to make every summer a special one here in Carson City. While there are certainly many who deserve our thanks, here’s just a few who have been making and will make our summer special so far: the organizers of last week’s Taste of Downtown, the downtown farmer’s market crew, the Retired Senior Volunteers Program for their work in providing this week’s Independence Day festivities, the organizers of this weekend’s Bring What Cha Brung Car Show, and of course, the organizers of the NV150 Fair.

WOODEN NICKEL: The state’s Democratic Party is held accountable here for not providing a viable candidate in this year’s Governor’s race. Yes, Brian Sandoval, is a popular governor, but not being able to provide a viable candidate to go up against Sandoval reminds us of the quote from Will Rogers: “I’m not part of an organized party, I’m a Democrat.”

But we have to admit, Bob Goodman, who won the Democratic primary to run for Governor while losing to “None of the Above,” leaving him truly second to none, has already provided those of us in the media with plenty of fodder.
