Rick Sparks, 65, a resident of

Carson city since 1971, passed away February 7, 2014

surrounded by his loving family.Rick was born January 15, 1949 in Marion, Ohio to Dale and Eunice Sparks. When his mom died in 1953, he and his dad headed West. Based on the name of the town, they decided Sparks was a good place to settle. Rick attended school in Sparks, graduating from Sparks High in June, 1967. On Graduation night he met Sylvia Gregg and they were married four months later in October. In March 1969, a week after he and his wife had twins, Rick went to work for Eagle Thrifty in the non-foods department and was promoted to General Merchandise Manager ten months later. He continued working for Raley’s when they bought Eagle Thrifty, opening both the Peckham Lane store and the Carson City store. He retired from Raley’s in 2001.Rick had a passion for cars and enjoyed traveling, boating, bowling, poker machines, penny slots, working around his house and spending time with family and friends. Rick lived life with the motto that “everything you do goes better with a Bud Light”. Rick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sylvia; son, Rickey Sparks Jr., daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Craig Berry, grandchildren, Joshua Berry, Mercedes Sparks, Chelsea Tucker (Lucas) and Meghan Sparks; great grandsons, Anthony and Christian; sisters, Starla Heuer, Norma Pine; brothers, Ron, Ernie, and Victor; and his best little buddy Dusty, a Yorkshire Terrier.A celebration of Rick’s life will be held Saturday, March 1st, 11am-2pm at Gold Dust West in Carson City. His Family would like you to join them in the celebration and share any special memories you might have of Rick.
