Carson High’s softball and baseball teams swing into action this week with tournament games.
The Carson baseball team opens at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Mike Bearman Memorial Tournament against Enochs.
On Friday, Carson will play South Tahoe at 9 a.m. at Wooster and then return to Reno High for a 3 p.m. contest against the Huskies. On Saturday, Carson plays Lowry at Wooster at 11:30 a.m., and then concludes tourney play with a game at 3 at Damonte Ranch.
Carson hosts North Valleys at 3:45 on March 18 in its Division I opener. The teams wrap up the two-game series on March 20, also at 3:45.
The Carson softball team, which played well in scrimmages last weekend, is playing in the Elk Grove Preseason Tournament sponsored by the Cal Breeze organization. Carson is playing all of its games at the Sacramento Softball Complex, located at Watt Avenue and Highway 80.
Carson plays Lincoln at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, battles Antelopoe at 3:15 on Friday and Del Oro at 5 p.m. on Friday. Carson will play twice on Saturday. Start times for those two games have yet to be decided.
Bailey Allen, Jennifer Purcell, Maddy VonDuering and Gabby Winder hit the ball well for the Senators during the scrimmages. Coach Shelby Tuttle used all three of his pitchers — Purcell, Becka Breuer and Kaitlyn Jimmy — in all three of the scrimmage games.
On the JC front, the WNC women visit College of Southern Nevada in a four-game series with doubleheaders set for Friday (1 p.m.) and Saturday (noon). The WNC offense is being led by Makenzie and Meghan Hospodka, both of whom are hitting over .300 for the season.
The WNC baseball team is hosting Mt. Hood CC on Friday and Saturday. The doubleheaders start at noon and 3 p.m. each day. WNC is coming off a split against Colorado Northwestern.
