Incumbents file for another term in Congress

Incumbents Mark Amodei and Steven Horsford have now both filed for election to a second term in the House of Representatives.

Amodei filed Wednesday morning while Horsford filed earlier in the week. Both face several challengers although Amodei, as yet, doesn’t have a Republican primary opponent.

He does, however, have three Democratic challengers and one Independent American, perennial candidate Janine Hansen. The three Democrats in the race as of Wednesday are Vance Alm of Reno, Brian Dempsey of Gardnerville and Kristen Spees of Incline Village.

Republicans have a 34,000 vote registration advantage in District 2.

Horsford has five opponents including fellow Democrat Sid Zeller of Reno and Mark Budetich Jr. of Las Vegas. There are three Republicans in the race, including a well-funded challenge by Mesquite Assemblyman Cresent Hardy. Niger Innis and Carlo Poliak, both of Las Vegas, have filed.

Libertarian Steve Brown of Las Vegas and IAP candidate Russell Best also are in the race.

Democrats have a 33,000 vote registration edge in District 4.

In both districts, however, the non-partisan voters more than make up for any major party registration advantage.

Amodei said he has focused his legislative efforts on public lands, agriculture, mining, tourism and veterans, introducing 16 pieces of legislation and actually passing four bills out of the House.

Horsford said he has made bills increasing tourism and creating jobs by designating the Tule Springs a national monument a priority along with working to “break through the gridlock and end the ideological bickering” in Congress.
