Dec. 16, 1952 - March 17, 2014
Diane Gamble peacefully passed from temporal life into eternal life early Monday morning, March 17, 2014. Her abiding faith in Christ became sight and she joined the myriad of saints before her, singing praise to her
sovereign King. The Tuesday morning sunrise over Nevada contained an extra swath of bright purple. Perhaps this was God’s gift to those of us who love her so, and mourn her absence, but give a shout of joy at her homegoing.
Diane was born in Watkins Glen, New York, on December 16, 1952 to Marilyn and Dominic Fazzary. She, her Mom, and little brother Rick moved to Elko, Nevada in 1957. She grew up in Elko and Carson City, finally landing in the
Carson Valley as a single mom with her son Mark McKinnon in 1977. Diane was dedicated to many forms of work and service throughout her life. She rolled into work as a carhop at the Arctic Circle in Elko, transitioned into a lengthy employment in the travel office of Bently Nevada, worked as a legal secretary for James O’Reilly, Gary Sheerin, George Keele and Patrick Walsh, and operated her own business as a private investigator and bail bondsman in the early 80s. In 1991, she and her husband David founded City of Refuge, a home for pregnant women who need a supportive structure and loving environment to grow. Dave and Diane have continued to lead the work at City of Refuge, always putting the needs of pregnant women and their unborn babies at the forefront of the mission. Diane also graced the radio airwaves at Pilgrim Radio for the last 22 years. She loved her work at Pilgrim, and many kids grew up listening to her and Uncle Bob on Kids’ Corner! She saw her work on the radio as another mission field, just like City of Refuge, and the Gospel was her weapon for tearing down strongholds and her instrument for building Christ’s Kingdom. Diny brought joy, smiles, style and candy to everyone she met. Drawing from her own life experiences, she demonstrated compassion that touched the lives of people all over the world. Her listening ears and kind voice lifted broken spirits. Her patience helped others learn to knit, to cook, to love, and to seek Jesus. She was a best friend to her husband, believer in her children, playmate to her grandkids, and advocate for moms and babies, born and unborn. She was devoted to studying the Bible, ancient languages and developing her own artistic gifts. She loved learning about the Lord and enjoying his remarkable creation, especially that found on the shores of Bandon, Oregon. Her spirit will live on in her family and the countless lives she touched. She will be missed every moment of every day. Please join us in celebrating her life on earth and her eternal life in Christ on March 26th at 1:00 PM at Grace Community Church at 2320 Heybourne Road, Minden, Nevada. Neither somber looks nor somber clothes recommended! Purple, and likely orange and red and yellow and green will abound! Diane loved her life and loved her friends and family. We intend to love her as she loved us; in joy and gladness! In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Diane’s memory to City of Refuge, PO Box 2663, Gardnerville, NV 89410. There will also be a viewing on the evening of March 25th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Walton’s Gardnerville, located at 1521 Church Street, Gardnerville, NV.
