Jobs Peak home fire toll estimated at $1.25 million

An early-morning fire did an estimated $1.25 million in damage to a Jobs Peak home Tuesday.

The fire started in the outside porch and spread into the attic space and interior of the two-story home. The homeowners said the fire started about 6 a.m. None of the three occupants was injured.

There were no sprinklers in the attic or porch area of the home, East Fork Fire Captain Terry Taylor said.

“The house is not a total loss, but certainly not livable,” Taylor said. “It will require extreme repair. It has extensive fire, smoke and water damage.”

The home was built in 2010 by Scott and Suzanne Drake, owners of Drake Industries, which builds classic-car parts.

“The family seems to be holding up as good as they can be,” Taylor said.

Investigators were still looking into the cause of the fire later Tuesday. There were no signs of arson.

The fire was contained at 8:15 a.m., but crews remained on scene to mop up.

Units from East Fork Fire Department; Gardnerville, Johnson Lane, Sheridan and Gardnerville Ranchos volunteer fire departments; and Tahoe Douglas Fire District responded.
