Mori sentenced for DUI

A Fallon woman agreed Thursday in Justice Court to a pair of plea agreements stemming from a high-speed chase in December.

Marlene Mori, 60, entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and is expected to plead guilty to a felony eluding count on Tuesday in District Court. She faces one to four years in prison for the felony, but is eligible for probation.

She received a 180-day suspended sentence with 42 days credit for time served after her arrest. She must also complete a drug treatment program, whether ordered by the District Court or through her own means, and was placed on probation for two years.

Mori’s attorney, Scott Jamieson of Reno, said his client plans to enter the Betty Ford Clinic for a 90-day treatment program.

According to Churchill County Deputy District Attorney Ben Newman, Mori led Fallon police on a chase throughout the city before crossing into the county. Once in the county, the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office picked up the chase.

Moir, though, reached speeds up to 100 mph and led deputies into Lyon County, where the Nevada Highway Patrol started its pursuit. Shortly after NHP’s involvement, Mori returned to Churchill County, pulled over and was arrested by sheriff’s deputies, according to Newman.

In other court news —

Michael Terrance Horstman pleaded guilty Tuesday in District Court to one count of child abuse, neglect or endangerment and one misdemeanor count of injury to property, a gross misdemeanor.

Horstman admitted he pulled the hair and struck a 16-year-old girl on March 14 and broke the rear window of a truck own by David Brown on March 5. He faces one to six years in prison for the felony and up to one year in the Churchill County Jail for the gross misdemeanor.

He will be sentenced on July 15 and remains in custody on $10,000 bond.

Susan Marie Shaw entered guilty pleas to one count of grand larceny of a motor vehicle and burglary.

Between Feb. 15-18, Shaw took a vehicle she did not own and entered a dwelling to do so. She will be sentenced July 8.

Bench warrants were issued for Tahkoah Nez Smith and Christian Rene Godinez-Zuniga, who were not present.
