The Retail Association of Nevada expects $293 million in Mother’s Day sales this year.

A spokesman said the National Retail Federation expects consumers to spend an average of $162.94 each on gifts for Mom.

Two-thirds are expected to buy her flowers, while more than half will treat Mom to a special outing at an average cost of $31.36 per person.

Spending totals are expected to rise even more for those buying Mom or their wives jewelry and other accessories.

Bryan Wachter of RAN said that with taxable sales up 4.5 percent over the past 12 months, spending will at least remain on par with last year’s.

Nearly two-thirds will be buying gifts for Mom, but almost one-quarter will be purchasing for their wives. And Wachter said one in 10 plans to buy something for his or her daughter as well.
