RESPECT THE FLAG

United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1 — The Flag 8. Respect for flag; k. The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

The number of torn and tattered American flags flying over city, county, state and federal buildings is appalling. With Memorial Day approaching, I would hope that the responsible government entities would take it upon themselves to correct this situation.

Further, private citizens and corporations should ensure that flags being flown over their homes and places of business are being flown in a respectful manner.

Those needing assistance with their flags should contact organizations such as the VFW.

Hope you feel guilty Fallon teens.

The other night my daughter and a good friend went for a walk out in Fallon boonies not thinking they had to lock their car out there.

Sitting a distance away they noticed a quad and some ruckus by her car. She and her friend went back and found you were stuck.

My daughter has a big heart and she and her friend gladly helped you I hope you felt guilty the entire time, because you got into her car and stole a gun clip (your lucky she didn’t have her gun on her), her medicine for RA and Crone’s Disease, and both her phones. She can’t replace any of these things.

I hope you change your ways and decide to be decent men when you grow up. Ode to spankings for kids when they are young!

The Fallon chapter of the University of Nevada Alumni Association would like to thank Saturday’s supporters for traveling to Reno to support Sara Parsons at her final University of Nevada softball game. Although the weather was cold and windy, the people who attended the trip had a good time.

Every year the Fallon chapter tries to organize two trips to the University of Nevada to support the Wolf Pack. The first trip occurred at the beginning of the season when we attended the first home football game. Next season we also plan to sponsor several trips to see Wolf Pack athletics.

The Fallon chapter also supports high school seniors each year by giving out scholarships.

We encourage any Nevada grad or friend of the university to join the Fallon chapter. We meet the first Wednesday of the month at Pizza Barn at 6 p.m.

36 percent Say More Government Hiring Would Be Good for Economy

Survey of 1,000 U.S. Likely Voters

15 percent of American Adults believe the government should extend unemployment benefits indefinitely for those who can’t find work for an extended period of time.

12 percent think the government should hire those who can’t find work for an extended period, 31 percent prefer the short-term solution of paying for their retraining, and another 31 percent think the government should nothing at all for the long-term unemployed. 12 percent are not sure.

18 percent Say U.S. Should Do More to Help Change Syrian Government

18 percent of Likely U.S. Voters believe the United States should do more to bring about a change in the government in Syria. 47 percent do not think the United States should do more. 35 percent are undecided.

25 percent believe a change in the Syrian government would be good for the United States, 13 percent say it would be bad for America, while 35 percent say it would have no impact. 27 percent are not sure. These sentiments have changed little since news of the crisis first spread in 2011, and 27 percent now think Syria is a vital national security interest for the United States.
