Twenty five of Northern Nevada’s most promising high school graduates each received a $1,000 scholarship from John Ascuaga’s Nugget on May 20.
The Nugget’s new owners continued this important community tradition that was started by the Ascuaga family.
“With the rising cost of higher education, today’s students need scholarships now more than ever,” said Nugget President and CEO Carlton Geer. “It is an important investment in the future of our community.”
The Ascuaga family, including John Ascuaga, Michonne Ascuaga and Stephen Ascuaga, presented the scholarship awards to the students at the luncheon.
The Nugget’s Scholarship Program is now in its 58th year and has helped 725 students by contributing more than $725,000 in educational funding over the years.
Local 2014 recipients of the Nugget Scholarship include the following:
Garrett Kalt from Churchill County High School; Shelbie Condie from Fernley High School; Nico Ambata-Rodriguez from Pershing County High School; Kelsey LaMunyon from Smith Valley High School; and Angela Sciarani from Yerington High School.
