Relay for Life plans future fundraisers

With the main Relay for Life less than a month away, the next two weekends will be busy with fundraising activities for the annual event.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s annual fight against cancer. Participants remember those who died from cancer and honor those who have fought the disease and won. More than 3,000 communities participate in the United States and its territories including Fallon Relay for Life events.

This year’s Relay for Life will begin on June 21 at 5 p.m. at the Churchill County High School track.

Chairwoman Lacey Lehman said about 30 percent of the money raised in Fallon stays in the community. She said local money, for example, helps provide either lodging or transportation for cancer patients seeking treatment.

The first event to celebrate cancer survivors takes place Sunday at the Churchill County Fairgrounds Pavilion from 1-3 p.m.

Banner Churchill Community Hospital is sponsoring National Cancer Survivors Day. Banner Churchill staff will be offering support to families and the community by letting them know there is life after a cancer diagnosis.

From Monday through June 7, Relay for Life is sponsoring “Paint the Town Purple.” Organizers are asking the community to decorate businesses, homes or cars to show support in the fight against cancer. Prizes for best decorations will be resented at Relay for Life on June 22.

Also on June 7 will be a yard sale at Kaia F.I.T., 750 S. Taylor St., from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. If people would like to donate items for the yard sale, they should call 775-427-8816. All proceeds will benefit the Fallon Relay for Life.

It’s Bunco time on June 13 at Kaia F.I.T. Doors open at 7 p.m., and there is a $10 entry fee.

Pre-order your tickets because of limited seating. The event will have many prizes and raffles with the proceeds benefiting the local Relay for Life.

Nevada Outfitters has donated a guided Mountain Lion Hunt for one hunter between Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2015. The winning ticket will be drawn on June 22 during the closing ceremonies.

Nevada Outfitters will provide meals, lodging, field transportation from Cold Springs Station — home base during the hunt — to the hunt area, trophy care and packing out of the hunter’s game.
