Connie Jean Torres

Connie Torres, a treasured wife, sister, mother and grandmother died suddenly on 22 October, 2014 at the age of 65. She was preceded by her mother Betty Craig and her father Charles Craig. She was born December 4th, 1948 a strong willed and rambunctious child, always daring to challenge anyone or anything that came in her way. Connie was born in Los Angeles CA spent some time in the Midwest and later returned to Los Angeles where she completed her school age years. In May 1976, Connie joined the United States Navy and proudly served 21 years achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer as a Cryptologist and retired in August 1997. In Nov of 1977 she gave birth to her daughter Laura. As a single parent in the Navy life was not easy, but she never allowed hardships to dampen her spirit or keep her from enjoying life. While serving in the Navy, she traveled the world spreading her hard work ethic, kindness, and charisma to all that she met; gaining friends that would stay with her throughout the years. After her retirement in 1997, Connie worked for the state of Nevada’s Department of Information Technology as an Information Technology Supervisor retiring from state service in 2012. During that time she met, fell in love and married Gabriel Torres on June 28, 2008. With her marriage to Gabe she expanded her family to include Gabe’s four sons, Albert, Gabriel J., Timothy and Bryce and their families. Connie’s greatest passion and love was her family most of all. With her extended family including two step children, Heather and Tammy, from a previous marriage she made it her life’s mission to keep all of the family connected through planning, coordinating, and hosting gatherings of all sizes for all of her extended family. She was the glue that bonded the Craig, Torres, Shiplet, and Eagle families. But, she especially loved being a grandmother to her seven grandkids Kelsey, Shane, Jordan, Breslin, Riley, Isabelle and Baylon, particularly doting on the infants. Connie and Gabe shared a great fondness for the outdoors, taking frequent trips to Lake Tahoe for camping, hiking, and caravanning with friends and family. Her remarks over the past couple years were of what peace she found in her later life surrounded by family and the serenity of the mountains. She is survived by her husband Gabriel Torres, her daughter Laura Cherney, and brothers John and Robert and sister Susan. Services will be held on Sunday, 2 November, please contact the family for more information. Flowers are welcome but donations can also be made in her name to the local animal shelter. Services will be held for Connie Torres Sunday, November 2nd, at the Capital Christian Center 1600 Snyder Ave in Carson City at 2:00pm.
