Chamber and CEDA hold job fair this week

The Fallon Chamber of Commerce and Churchill County Economic Development Authority is hosting a job fair Friday with several local business looking for qualified job seekers.

The job fair will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 257 Maine Street next to The Wok.

Businesses expected to attend include the following: Fallon Auto Mall, The Dentist’s Office, Nevada Job Connect, Churchill County School District, Highland Village, U.S. Fish & Wildlife, Roberta Stafford, Fallon Youth Club, Louie’s Home Center, A&K Earthmovers, No Child Left Behind, Kent’s Supply, United States Navy, Churchill Community Coalition, Best Western, Choice Wireless, The Homestead, Janess Printing & Marketing, Too Cute Totes, DFA Milk Plant and many more,” said Natalie Parrish, executive director of the Fallon Chamber of Commerce.

“With the onset of local jobs, local businesses began to express a need for local employees and the two organizations are participating in bridging the gap with the support of the following sponsors: Nevada Job Connect, Fallon Auto Mall, The Wok, Choice Wireless and Edward Jones,” Parrish said.

According to Parrish, individuals in Fallon and the outlying communities are invited to attend the community job fair. She said job seekers can look at the current job openings, deliver resumes, meet with local businesses, conduct a possible onsite interviews and have face-to-face contact with many hiring businesses.

Rachel Dahl, executive director of CEDA, said attendees should come dressed to impress and have their resumes handy.

“All of the business attending will be available to answer question and some business will be conducting interviews on site,” Dahl said.

She said an invitation was sent out to local business inviting them to join the job fair. She said the responses from businesses that wanted to participate was overwhelming.

“We have a large number of business that will be there on Friday,” Dahl said. “I think we’re going to have a great turn out from both businesses and job seekers.”

One of CEDA’s biggest focuses is on work force development, she said.

“For economical development it is important for us to have a work force that is ready,” Dahl said. “We’re hoping people will get jobs and people who have been looking will get hired. Another thing we wanted to do was build community and do something that would make our community stronger. This provides a great networking opportunity for businesses and job seekers.”
