Hessey defeats Dellera

Tasha Hessey defeated Jaime Dellera Tuesday to succeed Joan Sims as Churchill County Recorder.

The final vote count shows Hessey with a 4,160-2,896 win over Dellera.

Hessey has worked in the recorder’s office for seven-and-a-half years.

During her time in the recorder’s office, Hessey said she received up-to-date training with county and state laws and statutes that must be followed and assisted Sims with the office budget during the past two years.

“This past year I have completed the monthly, quarterly and year-end reports as well as the State of Nevada mining and Nevada Department of Taxation reports,” she said.

As recorder, Hessey said she wants to continue her goal of indexing older records into the county’s database. So far, records from 1977-1982 have been indexed, and she said nine years of records remain.

“Having these records in our database benefits the title companies, researchers and the community,” she said. “It allows for a more detailed and complete property search. I am proud to say you can now pull up documents from 1998 to current online. As our budget allows, I will continue uploading documents to our database.

Dellera has 21 years working in document management, eight years as a supervisor and working in a leadership capacity to maintain a $1 million budget.

She currently works for Washoe County.

Dellera began her career working for Churchill County in 1993 where she learned all aspects of the many offices associated with the county regarding laws and regulations governing local governments.

She left in 2006 and has been employed with the administration staff as the supervisor in the records division in Washoe County for the past eight years.

In her tenure with Churchill County, Dellera said she trained herself in various aspects of the entity with document management, computed elections, collected tax payments, reconciled county bank statements and assisted in District Court.

She left for Washoe County because Dellera realized she needed to grow her skill set to become an elected official.
