Ex-Wave stars wrap up fall season

The fall season is coming to an end for several ex-Greenwave stars performing on the college circuit.

Senior Caitlynn Marsh is wrapping up her career on the East Coast as she competes in volleyball for Claflin University, an NAIA program in South Carolina.

Marsh has started in 21 of 29 matches, racking up 48 kills, 29 assists and 17 service aces. Defensively, Marsh has recorded 165 digs and 14 total blocks (13 assists).

The Panthers finished the regular season 18-12, including 13-4 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and will be competing in the conference tournament on Monday.

Junior Charlie Heck is in his third year with the Jamestown College (N.D.) football team, which competes in the NAIA.

Heck is third on the team in carries with 42 and 174 yards for a 3.8 average. Heck has one touchdown run this year. Through the air, Heck has eight receptions for 73 yards.

The Jimmies are 4-4 after having won three in a row and will travel to Mayville State on Saturday and return home for Dickinson State in two weeks.

Sophomore Cady Cordes is headlining for the Western Connecticut State volleyball team, an NCAA Division III program.

Cordes has played in 28 matches, registering 154 kills, 27 assists, 27 service aces, 238 digs and 30 total blocks (12 solo).

The Colonials are 23-10, including 4-3 in conference, and defeated Rhode Island College in the quarterfinals of the Little East Conference Tournament on Tuesday. WCSU takes on Massachusetts-Boston on Saturday.

Sophomore Kelsey Reibsamen is also competing in volleyball for Simpson, an NAIA school in Redding, Calif.

Simpson is having a rough year with a 5-21 mark, including 2-6 in conference, as it entertains California-Merced tonight and Menlo College on Saturday. The California Pacific Conference Tournament begins next week.

Sophomore Haley Jorgensen is in her second year with St. Mary’s (Minn.) as she plays tennis in both the fall and spring seasons for the NCAA Division III school. The Cardinals competed in the USTA-ITA Midwest Regional in September and will return to the court in February for the spring season.

Sophomore Dalton Johnson is playing football at La Verne, an NCAA Division III school near Los Angeles. The Leopards are winless in league play at 0-5 but went 1-1 in the non-conference schedule. They host Pornona-Pitzer on Saturday and then travel to Cal Lutheran to conclude the season. Johnson has played in two games, recording a pair of tackles.

Dylan Tedford is a sophomore wide receiver at Occidental College in L.A. but saw his season end prematurely due to injury.

Sophomore Tanner Boone runs cross country in the fall and track in the spring at Great Falls, an NAIA program in Montana. The Argos recently took first in their three-team open last month and head to the Frontier/North Star Conference Cross Country Championships today in Billings, Mont. Boone finished sixth in the open and was third-best on the team.

The NAIA National Cross Country Championships is Nov. 22 in Lawrence, Kan.

Several freshmen made their college debut this fall or are redshirting this season.

The band of five Greenwave brothers is playing at Montana State-Northern, an NAIA school in the Frontier Conference that’s is 2-7 on the season, including 1-7 in conference play. The Lights host Montana-Western on Saturday before traveling to Rocky Mountain next week to end the season.

Tyson Ernst, Morgan Dirickson, Trent Tarner, Brendan Lewis and Dakota Schelling compete for the Lights.

Mary Scholtz is playing volleyball at the University of Dallas, an NCAA Division III program that’s 22-11 overall, 8-6 in league. Dallas faces Texas Lutheran today in the SCAC quarterfinals with the winner advancing to Saturday’s semifinal.

Scholz has started in 16 of 31 matches this season, recording 137 kills, 16 assists and 25 service aces. She has also registered 179 digs and 15 total blocks (14 assists).

Sydney Howard took home her first college buckle last month in the Feather River Challenge as she’s in her first year rodeoing with the California junior college. Howard took first in goat tying on the first day of the weekend event and then followed with a second-place finish on the second day. Feather River performed well in both the men’s and women’s rounds to conclude the fall portion of the schedule. Both teams are first in the West Coast Region.
