‘My Fair Lady’ to open Saturday Night

Since the mid-1950s, theatre goers have been entranced by the Broadway hit musical “May Fair Lady.” Often referred to as “the perfect musical,” the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company revives the George Bernard Shaw play the next three weekends at the Carson City Community Center.

“It is a beautifully written show, with a mix of comedy, depth, and unforgettable music,” said Stephanie Arrigotti, the show’s producer and director. “If you’ve never seen it, you are missing a treasure. If you have seen it, you won’t want to miss how this production brings it to life.”

Opening night is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, with a 2 p.m. matinee to follow on Sunday.

Through Nov. 23, performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Based on Shaw’s play “Pygmalion,” the production spotlights how a phonetics professor transforms a struggling flower girl into an elegant woman.

Kirk Gardner plays irascible professor Henry Higgins, who is tasked with molding Eliza Doolittle (played by Hannah Eckert) into a refined woman. The cast also includes Michael Peters as Pickering, Jody Paslov as Alfie Doolittle and Brad Fitch as Freddy.

The show is choreographed by Gina Kaskie Davis, while Kevin Murphy conducts a professional orchestra. The score captivates with numbers ranging from comic (“Why Can’t a Woman Be More Like a Man?”), to boisterous (“Get Me to the Church On Time,”) to romantic (“I Could Have Danced All Night”).
