Thank heavens for Thanksgiving

Watson here, and I’m filling in for my mom who is busy getting ready for Thanksgiving on Thursday. Our little family will be here next week to celebrate and enjoy being together. I just love it when the boy and his folks come because I get to sleep on the bed. Shhh . . . I don’t want my Mom to know our secret.

Thanksgiving gives me the opportunity to remember all of the things I’m thankful for. I have a great life thanks to the many people who care about animals. My story is only one of the many success stories sponsored by Churchill Animal Protection Society. You see, without CAPS I wouldn’t be here to write this story, enjoy turkey or run in the sun. I’m a proud CAPS graduate.

I started out at the Fallon Shelter where I was dropped off by my owner. I’m not sure what I did but at least he gave me a second chance. The people there were kind to me, and before I knew it I was whisked off to CAPS. At CAPS the food was good, the people were nice, and I had plenty of friends to play with.

I love to play, and I even got to go to Maggie’s Playhouse where I had the chance to meet new friends. I was the sunshine of doggie daycare. Maggie’s Playhouse , is named after Maggie who was Shannon’s (the owner) dog. Maggie, has gone to the big playhouse in the sky now. She is greatly missed.

Each day at CAPS, I got to walk with someone. I shouldn’t say I had a favorite person, but I did make a special friend named Pauline. She always had a treat for me, extra pets and sweet words. That’s what friends are for.

The people at CAPS work very hard to keep all of the animals fed, clean and healthy. Some of the animals live for a long time at the shelter until that special someone comes to take them home. I was lucky because my people family found me, and we’ve been happy together ever since.

My day usually starts with a quick lap around Laura Mills Park to read all the p-mail. Then it’s breakfast time; yum, dog food is my favorite. After that it’s off to the dog park.

The dog park is a great place where everyone has fun. All the people adore dogs, and every dog gets lots of petting and attention. I have many friends at the dog park.

I am especially thankful for: Bella, Freckles, Merci, Maria, Danny, Georgie, Frank, Moose, Diesel, Inca, Rocky, Roo, Riley and Benson. They put the “W” in Woof. Thanks to all of my people friends too because they make me feel loved and accepted.

Well, I must be going because I think my mom is stirring up something delicious with my name on it. Happy Thanksgiving, it truly is a time to be thankful!
