July 7, 1942 - Nov. 2, 2014
Wayne Jerry Ornbaum passed away peacefully with his entire family at his bedside at the age of 72. He was born in Centralia, IL but was raised between Boonville and Twain Harte, CA. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 16 in 1958. After serving in Viet Nam, he returned to Laos to fly alongside his father, pilot Donald L. Ornbaum, where he was shot and eventually sent home. He married the love of his life, Kathy Marie Hagemeyer in Reno, NV in February, 1974. They eventually settled in Twain Harte, CA. with their two children where he volunteered with the Scouts and with the local schools. He was always up for some fun and was known for his sense of humor. He was known to fiddle with and fix everything under the sun, even if it didn’t need it. He had a great respect for all branches of military, although he held a soft spot for the Marines, and proudly let everyone know it. He retired from the flooring industry back to Nevada in 2002. Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Marie, his brother, John, and his father, Donald L. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 40 years, Kat, his daughter and son in law, Sharyn and Scott Willers of Tahoe City, CA, his son and daughter in law, Don and Elizabeth Ornbaum of Sparks, NV, and his eight grandchildren, Travis, Lela, Emerson, Owen, Emily, Olivia, Ryland, and Lincoln. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014 at 2PM at the Northern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV.
