St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Carson City intends Sunday morning to hold a Blessing of the Animals, which is an annual tradition there.

The blessing is scheduled at 9 a.m. and the church is located at the corner of Division and Telegraph streets in the city’s historic district. According to Jeff Paul, church rector, all are welcome.

“Everyone in Carson City and the surrounding area is invited to bring your beloved pets, photos or mementos of pets who are unable to travel or have passed away, to be honored and blessed,” said Paul.

“A tradition in the Episcopal Church, the animal blessing is associated with the Feast of St. Francis, which occurs every year on Oct. 4,” he said.

Paul said St. Francis lived as one with all creation, preaching and teaching a message of compassion and love for creatures great and small. The rector called it a privilege and honor to host such a gathering.

“You will find us on the front steps of the church building in front of Division Street,” he said. “Join us for an outdoor celebration of creation and love.”
