Artwork by Lyon County art teachers, including Amy Weischan and Edward Durand, and Dayton teens Blake Carter and Mallorie-Lynn Gribble are on display at St. Mary’s Art Center in Virginia City. They join several other Nevada, U.S. and international artists’ works.

The four communities of the Comstock — Virginia City, Gold Hill, Silver City and Dayton — have tremendous arts and culture resources and a large percentage of residents who are artists, musicians, writers, performers and artisans.

The art center serves as a focal point for the work of both professional and emerging artists of Nevada and the world, with exhibitions, classes, artist residencies in a building that includes a darkroom, print making equipment and studio space.

The center also offers opportunities for group retreats — the building has 15 bedrooms, two kitchens and panoramic views of the National Historic Landmark region.

On display now is work by art teachers in the new “Art Educators of Nevada” show, work by some of Dayton’s emerging artists, watercolors and oils by Dale Laitinen, photos by Brandon Lacow and a new show by Michelle Lassaline.

There are also paintings by many other artists throughout the Center’s kitchens and 15 bedrooms.
