Emmy-nominated Heritage Blues Quintet performs Saturday

There are still some seats available for the Heritage Blues Quintet show tomorrow night at the Arts Center.

The Grammy-nominated group has received critical acclaim from many sources including All About Jazz and the Wall Street Journal as well as on NPR and the BBC. Taj Mahal has said that they “are the new and exciting face of the blues.”

Based in New York City, the group not only performs traditional country blues but also blends in a healthy sampling of jazz and gospel.

Their album, “And Still I Rise,” for being both roots-based and at the same time offering up a rollicking good time sound. From a capella field hollers to the slide guitar styles of Muddy Waters and Son House.

Film series

Coming Oct. 24 will be the screening of “Easy Rider,” the last offering in CAC’s Fall Film Series, “Road Chronicles I.”

The 1969 film stars Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda along with Jack Nicholson. It’s the story of two bikers who set out from Los Angeles on cross country trip to try and find America. It has become a “cult classic” film with a devoted following.

It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor, Nicholson, who was also nominated for a Goldsen Globe, and Best Original Screenplay. It was also nominated for the Palme d’Or, the grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival, where it did win the award for best film by a new director, Dennis Hopper.

Tickets are $7 for CAC members and $10 for nonmembers and may be purchased in the Center’s Art Bar beginning at 6 p.m. on Oct. 24 and the film.
